An Evening with Babylonstoren — Food & Wine Pairing at The Kitchen
22 April 2025 | 18h00 | The Kitchen, Warm Karoo
Some wines are made to be drunk. Others are made to be understood. On 22 April, The Kitchen at Warm Karoo hosts an intimate five-course food and wine pairing in collaboration with Babylonstoren — one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine estates — where every dish is designed to make the wine taste better, and every wine is chosen to do the same for the food.
Set in The Kitchen’s warm, lantern-lit interior with its timber beams, wooden floors, and bi-fold doors opening onto the patio and lawn, the evening is as much about atmosphere as it is about flavour.
The Menu
Arrival — Sprankel & Bitter Lekker Start the evening with a welcome drink that sets the tone: bright, celebratory, and a little unexpected.
Amuse-Bouche — Marinated Pepper and Fresh Basil Bruschetta paired with Babylonstoren Rosé A crisp, aromatic opener — the bruschetta’s acidity and herb notes lifted beautifully by the estate’s signature Rosé.
Starter — Wild Mushroom and Truffle-flavoured Risotto paired with Babylonstoren Chardonnay Rich, earthy, and deeply savoury, met by a Chardonnay with the structure and fruit to hold its own.
Main Course — Moroccan Pulled Lamb on a Potato Rösti with Honey-roasted Sweet Potato and Crème Fraîche paired with Babylonstoren Cabernet Sauvignon The evening’s centrepiece. Slow-cooked lamb with warm spice and sweetness, anchored by one of the Cape’s great red varieties.
Palate Cleanser — Sorbet Shot with Mint Sugar A brief, refreshing pause before the finale.
Dessert — Cheesecake with Cherry & Liqueur Preserve, topped with Dark Chocolate paired with Babylonstoren BabelThe evening closes with Babylonstoren’s flagship blend — rich and complex, a natural match for the cheesecake’s dark cherry depth and bittersweet chocolate finish.
